End of Marriage
If the battle to protect marriage takes even five more years, liberal judges and activists will have destroyed this 5,000-year-old institution, which was designed by the Creator, Himself. Even now, they are close to achieving that coveted objective.
To get some other perspectives on the power of our judges check out Andrew Sullivan's blog and this other obscure blog Andrew links to.
For the record (and for those who may read this and not be familiar with my views), although I think that civil gay marriage should be allowed, I do not think any religious institution should be forced to recognize the validity of that marriage. After all, couples are married every day at court houses all across the nation and never seek spiritual recognition or blessing. That being said, our government has an obligation to extend to all of its citizens the same rights and priviledges. To do otherwise is government sanctioned discrimination. To allow civil gay marriage is the right thing to do. Any argument against such marriage with its foundation in religious belief should be ignored, because we are discussing "civil" marriage. If a church wishes to recognize these marriages, that would be gravy for the couple. But if not, it would be no different from the current stance of the Catholic Church, which doesn't recognize a marriage unless it has been blessed by a priest. Nuff Said!

Squirrels & Cats
A yellow jeep drove past that took me back several years to a time when life was confusing, yet becoming strangly comfortable. My friend and neighbor had a jeep like the one I just saw. I found myself in a memory of us in search of party music. Her and her partner, their roommate, and me. Top down. Radio turned up. I became honorary family that night. Little did the others know that I would soon be telling them that it wasn't just an honorary title. I was full fledged family. Every time I see a yellow jeep or hear John Denver sing "Thank God I'm a Country Boy", I think of that night.

My First Entry
I've found recently that what I thought had been the end of a long discovery process into myself was only the beginning. I find myself looking for purpose in my life. In this search for purpose, I've rediscovered the spiritual side of myself. I've become a confirmed Episcopalian after spending many years estranged from the Southern Baptist denomination.
I also am finding the joy of discovering a new city. I have recently moved from Atlanta, GA to St. Louis, MO as a result of a job transfer. Having spent my entire life in the south, I was apprehensive about the move, but I have fallen in love with my new city. I've found a small town which seems to be oblivious to the fact that it has become a city. So on any given night, I can find a concert in the park, walk to the local bar and have a beer with the neighbors, or just sit on my front steps and live.
